EMI CMG NASHVILLE, TN – April 24, 2008 – EMI Christian Music Group took home 18 Dove Awards of the record number 76 the company was nominated for at the Gospel Music Association’s annual award show Wednesday night (complete list of EMI CMG winners below).

Artist of the Year TobyMac reclaimed the title he earned as a member of dcTalk in 1996. TobyMac also took home Dove awards for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year for Portable Sounds and Short Form Video of the Year for the video to the song “Boomin’” off the afore mentioned album.

Two-time Dove Awards Artist of the Year Chris Tomlin extended his streak of wins for Male Vocalist of the Year to three while picking up another award for “How Great Is Our God” (Worship Song of the Year), a song he co-wrote with band mate Jesse Reeves and producer Ed Cash.

Tomlin’s sixstepsrecords label mates David Crowder*Band were recognized for their album Remedy, collecting Doves for Praise and Worship Album of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year (“Everything Glorious”) as well as Recorded Music Packaging.

David Crowder*Band joined a handful of EMI CMG artists who took the stage Wednesday night when the show went live on the Gospel Music Channel, starting the night off was a medley of New Artist nominees including Rush of Fools and Mandisa, the latter whom also performed alongside Amy Grant as part of a tribute to Michael W. Smith. Chris Tomlin introduced the world premiere of the first song written and recorded for Compassionart, Delirious? frontman/songwriter Martin Smith’s newly formed charity, and then joined Steven Curtis Chapman and others onstage for the performance.

Another first happened as Switchfoot took the stage for the first time performing their new song “This Is Home” which will be included on the soundtrack for the Walt Disney Pictures/Walden Media film “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” David Crowder*Band helped transform the Opry stage into a pastoral scene with their performance of Dove-winning song “Everything Glorious.” A team of white jumpsuit clad workers rolled out artificial turf, carried out giant plastic flowers, prop deer and raised a blue sky backdrop complete with a “smiling” sun in the sky being lowered from the rafters in what was the evening’s most whimsical moment.

All-time leading Dove winner Steven Curtis Chapman, who also performed during the 39th Annual Dove Awards on Wednesday night, picked up his 52nd and 53rd Dove statuettes for his participation in the Glory Revealed project. Gaither Music Group artist Ernie Haase & Signature Sound came away with two Dove awards recognizing their work Get Away, Jordan.

Doves awarded in the Album Category went to seven EMI CMG artists for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year (Portable Sounds TobyMac), Inspirational Album of the Year (I Love To Tell The Story, A Hymns Collection Mark Lowry), Southern Gospel Album of the Year (Get Away, Jordan Ernie Haase & Signature Sound), Country Album of the Year (Big Sky The Isaacs), Instrumental Album of the Year (Amazing Grace (Original Score) David Arnold), Children’s Music Album of the Year (VeggieTales Christian Hit Music VeggieTales) and Praise & Worship Album of the Year (Remedy David Crowder*Band).
